Flowers & Fruit

You can grow flowers in your town, cross-breeding them to create hybrids, or you can bring these rare hybrids in from another town (like me!)

Flowers that are bred/found in your town can also be sold to Nook.
Here is a list of the flowers and their selling prices:

Fruit:

There are SIX types of fruit in Animal Crossing.

PEARS

PEACHES

APPLES

CHERRIES

ORANGES

COCONUTS

They can be planted in the ground to grow trees in your town and then you will have them as fruits in your own town! (Coconuts must be planted along the beach- right above the shore line- not in the sand, but right above it!)

Tips and hints about growing flowers and fruit:

Flowers are used to make your town look nicer and more colorful. They are the biggest part of your perfect town status. There are many different species, some of which may be purchased from Tom Nook. Flowers that are not available through Nook include Dandelions, Jacob's Ladders, Carnations, and Hybrids (see below).

Flowers must be watered DAILY. Flowers that are not watered may wilt the following day (their color gets more brown/darker which can be difficult to notice on certain colors of flowers). If a wilted flower is not watered, it will die (disappear) the following day. Rain and snow waters all flowers in your town automatically. It is believed that if it is raining in the city when you visit it and you return to your town before saving, it still counts as having watered your flowers for that day. Note that if you attempt to pick up a wilted flower, it will be destroyed.

Flowers can also be picked up and placed inside your house where they will appear to be growing in some sort of flower pot or box. While they are indoors, they will never wilt or require watering, so this is a useful way to keep rare hybrids if you know you won't be able to water them for a few days.

In addition to dying from lack of water, flowers may be killed if you run (not walk) over them.

Flowers can be also be worn. Tulips, Cosmos, Pansies, and Jacob's Ladders are worn in your hair. Roses are carried in your mouth.

When choosing where to plant your flowers, try to avoid signposts. These signs are places where a new villager's house might appear. If a house appears at a sign, any flowers located under its footprint will be destroyed. Note that this includes the space directly in front of the door.

X = no plant zone
T = sign
Z = okay to plant

Carnations

Carnations are not sold by Nook, but received on special holidays. They come in red, white, and pink.
On Mother's Day, your mother will send you a bag of pink carnations.
On Father's Day, your dad will send you a bag of red carnations.
White carnations are only obtained by cross-breeding pink and red carnations.

Hybrids

Hybrids are flowers that grow when you crossbreed flowers - done by placing two flowers next to each other. The color of the flowers determines the color of the hybrid. If you place flowers on the edge of a tier a flower can grow on the next tier. When you crossbreed, it is possible to get one of the starting flowers you are crossbreeding. Example: crossbreeding two red roses may get you either a black or a
red rose.
When a hybrid flower is successfully bred, it appears in a spot directly adjacent to one of the parent flowers(either to the side or at an angle). So as you are planting parent flowers to try to create a hybrid, make sure you keep the surrounding spaces empty. This will give the hybrid a spot to grow in. If you plant the parent flowers next to a tree, sign, building, or another flower(or other non-growing spot), it reduces the number of spots for the hybrid to appear, thus reducing the chance of growing a hybrid.

The information gathered most likely shows that more than one different colored child produces from the above combinations.
Please contribute to this research by (if you have gold roses) testing a few of these combinations.

NOTE: Hybrid colors don't always produce hybrid-colored children. They may also produce their normal predecessors when they
germinate, as shown in the picture below.

Roses as their predecessors.

Gold Roses

Gold roses are made from watering wilted black roses with a golden watering can. In Animal Crossing WW, gold roses did not breed.
However in this game, they do breed.
So far the information gathered is:
gold + gold = yellow
gold + yellow = pink (red possibly)
gold + pink = orange
gold + purple = white (red possibly)
gold + blue = red
gold + red = pink
