Meaning of Notes
The letters A through G are the regular musical notes, starting on a low G rising nearly two octaves to a high E. The higher up the screen a note is, the higher the pitch. There are no flat or sharp notes (the black keys on a piano keyboard), so you can use the C-Major scale for tunes in a major key (happy tunes), and the A-minor scale for tunes in a minor key (sad tunes) - as those two scales use only the "white key" notes - no sharps or flats.Off the top of the scale you'll fine the '?' note - this plays a random note each time the tune plays.
Second to the bottom, of the scale, you'll first find the '-' note; this continues the previous note played, allowing you to have a single long note. For example if you write "G - -" you'll get the G note playing for 3 beats, whereas "G G G" will play the G note three times.
Below the '-' note you'll find 'Zz', which means that no note will be played.

The default town theme is:
E G C E D B G F E Z ? Z C - - Z
[NB - not sure which of those notes is high and which is low. If someone knows can you rewrite it so that low notes are in lower case and high notes in upper case, as on the Famous Themes page.]
