Mortgage
The player doesn't have enough bells to pay for it at first, so they must earn a small amount of bells from Tom Nook by completing brief tasks for him. These tasks aren't enough to pay off the house, so the player is left with a mortgage to pay off. This can be done at the ABD machine in the Town Hall or the City. Once paid off, Tom Nook offers to upgrade the house, which again requires paying him back. Eventually, the house becomes fully upgraded, and the player becomes debt free. See below for the various upgrades and how much they cost.
Flag
Once you've fully expanded the house and paid off all the debt to Nook, he'll give you a flag for your house as a present. You can change the design on the flag from the phone in your attic.
Mailbox
Each house has a mailbox outside, where any mail for you will be delivered.
Attic
The attic is the top floor of your house, where your bed is. Its size is 3X4. You can change your bed by taking the bed you want to your attic and approaching the current bed from below and pressing the A button. You'll then be offered the choice of swapping the bed for the one in your pockets. You cannot place furniture here.
The attic is also where your phone is. This allows you to ring Rover and change various game options, including how the villagers speak and if you want to use WiiConnect24. If your house is fully upgraded you can also change your house's flag.
Roof
You can change the colour of your house's roof by buying paint from Tom Nook.
HRA
The HRA grades your house on how good it looks and if it's functional. You want your house to look good for the HRA, if you are a member. Become a member by going to the city and talk to Lyle of the HRA.
